Final exam

Do you have a life! This is what most parents are wondering about their teenage sons and daughters. My parents have even asked me if I would ever be able to find something better to do with my time than watch TV. What parents don't realize is we do have lives and very interesting hobbies as well. I don't care who you are; everyone has a hobby. Whether your hobby is dangerous or nerdy, it can not be denied. I even have a hobby. My hobby, however, is not dangerous or nerdy. I love to shop, and I am proud to say that this is my hobby. From what I have observed over the years there are three different categories for the hobbies that people, even me, have. The three catergories of hobbies are nerdy, dangerous, and expensive.

Nerds are the people who get straight a's and spend all day in a book. Nerds are the intelligent beings that, though they have no social life, are very lucky because with their intelligence they are able to get whatever they want. I am definently not a nerd and I do not fall in this category, but I do know people who do. I have friends who have rather nerdy hobbies. Some of these hobbies include, doing voice oversaw to every Harry Potter movie, playing trombone in the band, playing an "exciting" game of chess, and doing all nighters to see who can read the Harry Potter books the quickest so that they can go online and chat about the book. These type of hobbies that I have observed over the years are very easy to classify. I do not enjoy any of these hobbies but that is okay with me if other people actually do like these things. All I have to say to these people is, good luck with your next Harry potter all-nighter, and even though your hobbies are not dangerous that doesn't mean that they are not exciting.

Skateboarders, snowboarders, dirt bikers, and car racers all have one thing in common, their hobbies are dangerous. The people who like to live on the edge and push the limits, are the people who, in my opinion, have the most exciting hobbies. I wouldn't put myself in this category either. I am not a thrill seeker and I don't like living on the edge. In my 18 years on life, however, I have come across these daredevils. These daredevils would tell stories of how many bones they have broken or how many times they have gotten stopped by the "fuzz" while doing their hobbies. They hobbies range from skateboarding to motocross. Some other hobbies that they would tell me about are skateboarding where they know that they are not aloud just for the rush of running from cops, Snowboarding off the steepest slope and hoping to land it without getting any broken bones on the way, and racing dirt bikes around a dirt track and having to dodge the bikes and bodies that have crashed or fallen on the track. The people who would tell me these stories also told me that they live their lives day by day and therefore they want to create as much excitement in one day as possible. I know for a fact that I would not even survive on day as a thrill seeker. I know that this is true because I can't event stand the pain from a paper cut, let alone a broken bone. This hobby though dangerous can also get very expensive because of medical bills, but I would much rather spend money on other things.

Shopping, going on trips, and beauty. Now this is what I'm talking about. Walking through store after store and looking at all of the neat things can get very expensive. Not only can this be very expensive but so can going to trips to beautiful destinations and keeping ones self groomed and looking fabulous at all times. I am definently not ashamed to say that, yes, I fall into this category. I love to do all three of these hobbies. If I had to pick just one, I honestly don't think that I could. Some people might consider these hobbies to be dangerous but not I. I have known people to max out credit cards and to go into debt because of these hobbies, but I have a theory. My theory is, you only live once. Whether it is going on shopping sprees, going on a vacation to an exotic location, or getting a manicure and pedicure daily, all of these hobbies are very, very expensive. I have proven though that people do not have to be rich in order to enjoy a hobby like this. I enjoy this hobby and I am a full-time college student with all kinds of bills. I guess you could say that this hobby is a girl's best friend.

Everyone has a hobby. Their hobbies, however may not fall in any of these categories. I have observed the hobbies of my friends and family and these three categories are what I came up with. Everyone has different personalities and different interests. Everybody is unique.

Did I like English 101?

This class was a very enjoyable one. Even though i have taken this class once before in high school, there were some things that were different and suprised me a lot. In my high school class we would have one to two papers a week and they would be typed, printed and handed in. The number of assignments were not a big suprise to me but how we wrote them was. I didn't expect to have a blog address and have to post everything i wrote on there as long as print off and pass in stuff from time to time. This was definently different but i liked it.

The next thing that was different was all of our assignments could be found online and if we wanted to write ahead we could. We also didn't have to attend each and every class, as long as we handed in all of the assignments and were able to keep up with all of the writing. In high school we had to attend every class and we didn't know what we were doing for work until we got to class. I liked the independence of this class. It helped me not to stress so much having to get up early every other day, and it let me pace myself.

The last thing that was different was that there was no text book. In high School we had a little paper covered book with every different kind of paper and how to write it and examples of the papers. We did every kind of paper in that book. When i came to my first english class at this college i was very suprised when he told us that there was no text book. This probably was difficult for other people but it wasn't for me because i had already written all of the papers before. Not having a text book though, was very convenient because we didn't have to buy another book, we just went online to find everything that a book might have told us.

All in all i enjoyed the class and the independence of it. I would highly recommend this particular class with john goldfine to all of the new freshman.

example comparison essay

I'm so tired! This is what I find myself saying almost everyday. It is almost like every time I open my mouth to say something all that comes out is a big, huge yawn. My parents, like any other parents, tell me that I am pushing myself too hard and that I need to change something in my schedule so that I can get some well deserved rest. When they tell me this I just look at them, yawn, and tell them that I can do this and that my body just needs to adjust to the lack of sleep. I never used to be so tired, but the last five months have been a killer. Here are some examples to why I am so tired.

First off, I am a full time student. Studying medical transcription is very hard. It is a bigger class load than most other majors and the classes, especially the medical classes, are really hard. My earliest class is at 9:00 a.m.(English class). This class is probably my favorite class because the teacher isn't breathing down my neck and telling me that work has to be passed in on a certain time, or else. My latest class, however, is medical terminology. I have this class on Friday's from 2:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. This class is the hardest class I have this semester. As a matter of fact, I am not really sure if I will pass the class. My other two classes are business English, and keyboarding 1. Business English is the easiest class I have this semester. It is simple, common sense English that everyone learns in elementary school. Keyboarding isn't hard but it isn't easy either. This is because it isn't just typing to work on our speed, it is typing reports and documents and having huge lists of homework. All in all, this semester is probably the hardest I have ever work in all my years of education.

Not only am I a full time student but I also work full time. I am employed at the Walmart Supercenter in Brewer. For the simple reason that I have classes during the day, I work nights. My schedule is monday through Thursday 3:00p.m. to 12:30a.m., and Saturday and Sunday days. I am supposed to have two consecutive days off a week, and I usually don't. It is really tiring going to school in the morning and having to get up really early and then rushing to get to work after class. I usually do not get home from work during the week until 1:00a.m. Then having to get up at 7:ooa.m. is very, very tiring. My only wish is that on the weekends I can sleep in, but I can't. It is a sucky schedule, I know, but since I am a college student, I have a lot of bills and need the money.

My shedule is really busy, but I need to make time for my friends. I have a lot of really close friends and while working and going to school full-time, I don't really get to see them as much as I would like. When I find the time though, I spent as much time possible with them. When we do get to hang out we usually have basically nothing to do. We usually sit around and look at each other, not knowing what to do. Most of the time we usually go out to eat somewhere, and then either go to someone's house to hang out or we go hang out at the union on the University of Maine campus. We all love to play games and are always trying to find a new game to buy and play. We all hang out until about midnight or 1:00a.m. and then call it a night. By the time I go home I am dead tired, once again, and have to get up that morning and go to work. Though my schedule is really full, I call my friends or they call me at least once a day.

Being tired can not only cause fatigue, but it can also have some physical effects. For example, dark circles under the eyes, weight loss, moodiness, and sore achy limbs. I have all of these symptom's. I am hoping that my body will adjust to all of these and make my life a little bit easier. Until then I am going to hold my head up high, when people doubt me , and I am going to keep at it. Though I am tired, I am putting myself through all of this for a reason. That reason is that I want to better myself for the future and that is exactly what I am going to do.

Contrast essay: A girl's best friend

SHOES!!! These little foot coverings are what keep women sane in this big stressful world. There are plenty of different kinds of shoes. The types of shoes range from boring old sneakers to high class stilletoes. Every women has their very own shoe personality. I even have my own shoe personality. I tend to be really relaxed and I like to feel comfortable at all times. Therefore, the two shoe types that I like to wear are sneakers and flip flops. These two types of shoes are very different . They are different in three ways, warmth, style, and time.

Sneakers are a good shoe to wear in the winter months. This is true because they cover my both of my feet and keep them snuggled nice and tight so that no cold air enters. During the summer, on the other hand, sneakers tend to be a smelly nuisance. The summer heat and my body heat are not a good combination when wearing sneakers. This is how my sneakers get that rank smell and how my feet get so unbearably sweaty and smelly as well. During these hot summer months my little piggies need to breath. This is why man created flip flops. These fascinating shoes, though skimpy, allow my little piggies to not only breath but they allow me to show off my pedicure in a very stylish way. During the colder months though, these cute sandals just don't cut it. If I spend just five minutes outside in the cold with these flip flops on I will loose all feeling in my feet. In this battle for warmth sneakers are the champs. Style, on the other hand, plays a big part in all things to do with shoes.

Style is a big part in the decision making when I am buying shoes. Sneakers are not very fashionable. sneakers have unflattering designs on them. Yes it is true that they do sell pink shoes , but pink does not go with everything. Sneakers add too muck bulk to my feet and make them look like big old snow shoes. Flip flops, on the other hand, are very stylish. They come in all different colors and materials. Some flip flops are flat on the bottom and some have little or big stiletto heals. They can go with anything that I wear. I can wear them with jeans and I can wear them with a skirt. It seems like everyday they are coming out with new designs and color concepts for flip flops. If you haven't already guessed, because of the style issue I wear flip flops more than I wear sneakers. Another factor plays into the differences of these shoes, and that is time.

When I am in a rush to get out the door and I don't have a minute to spare, sneakers are a real problem. I have to slow down and sit down and untie the sneakers, put them on, and tie them back up again. In the time that I would have taken to do all this I could already be out of my drive way and on my way. Sneakers are not a good time savor at all! I am already busy enough and to have to take extra time out of my busy schedule to put these shoes on is just barbaric. Flip flops though, and very good when it comes to time. When I am in a hurry and have no time to waste I can just slip my feet quickly into my flip flops and I am well on my way. Flip flops I believe were made just for those busy women in this world. It takes milliseconds to put them on and take them off, and the quicker it takes the better.

By reading these three examples it is easy to see who the winner is. Flip flops are the champs. Flip flops make the world a better, stylish, quicker place. Whoever was responsible for inventing the flip flop is a Guinness in my eyes. I solute you.

Classification essay: The car stage

This car is a piece of she@&! This is what most people, along with myself, say about their first cars. You see, throughout life as people grow up so do their cars. In a way money plays a big role in this. When a teenager get his or hers first car they are usually buying it with the minimum wage that they are earning at their job at McDonald's. For example, I bought my first car for a low price of $1200, and I earned that money from my part-time job at Governor's Restaurant. Even though I did not have a lot of money when I bought the car I was still picky about the car that I was going to buy. It needed to have three things, a radio, it had to be a pretty color, and it could not be boxy looking. As people grow up though they will get better paying jobs and will therefore have a better car. For example, my parents' both have nice new Toyota vehicles. My dad has a Toyota Tacoma, and my mom has a Toyota camry. They have these cars because they think that they are economical and get good gas mileage. Finally, for whatever reason, when people, like my grandparents, retire they find it necessary to buy a huge boat of a car that eats up all of their retirement money in gas. You see not only do we go through stages so do our cars. The stages go like this, a teenager with a p.o.s. car, an adult with a good, economic car, and an elderly person with a big old boat.

When I was 16 I was employed at Governor's restaurant. I could only work 20 hours a week for the simple reason that I was in school and underage. I struggled with school and work for the entire school year, then finally it was time to take my driver's test. I was so excited to get my license and finally buy my first car. As soon as the test was over and I was told that I passed, all I could think about was that it was time to get a car. That night when I got home I took my dad's uncle henrys and started looking at cars for sale. I quickly found what I thought to be a heck of a deal. The car was a 1994, royal blue, Chevy cavalier. I bought it on the spot. The price tag for it was $1200. I was so excited. It made me feel so grown up, for the simple reason that I had my license and my very own car. Even though I was young and didn't really know what it was that makes a car a good, reliable car, I did have three things that in my opinion made it a good car. It had a radio, it was a pretty color, and it was not boxy looking. Adults on the other hand that have families of their own have different requirements for their cars.

When people grow up and get married and have children, not only do they change but their requirements for cars change as well. They are no longer looking for souped up muscle car, but now they are looking for something economical, safe, and gets good gas mileage. For Example, my parents fit in this stereotype perfectly. They not only want a newer more reliable vehicle but they also want one that is good on gas mileage. This is what I find to be kind of ironic. When people are young and don't even have enough money to afford a good car they are still willing to shell out as much money as they have to in order to keep it running. On the other hand, adults with good paying jobs who can afford a good car are not as willing to spend money on their vehicles. When i get to this stage of life and can afford a good car, I know exactly what car I am going to buy. If I have children I will buy a top of the line van. If I do not have any children I will probably buy something new and sporty. Elderly people though, will spend money like it grows on trees.

Elderly people are not economical at all. They will buy the biggest gas hog they can with the social security checks that they collect every month. These people will gladly shell out $50 to fill their boat's gas tank. My grandparents, for example, trade in their car like every two months for a bigger car. They started out with a small economical truck and now they have upgraded to a huge diesel truck. This thing is a boat! This makes me wish that I had all that money to burn like they do. I think this is something that will never be figured out. Why do elderly people always buy huge boats of cars? Maybe, it is because they use it as a warning for other drivers'. They use it to tell other drivers to watch out! This could be because most elderly people are hard of hearing, have really bad eye site, or they are really short from all those years of shrinking, and in order to protect themselves from getting into accidents they buy these cars so that people can see them coming and that they know to get out of the way. I can not even drive my fathers truck, let alone a huge boat of a car. This is why when i am in my elderly stage of life i am going to buy a good reliable car, a normal sized car. I know that i have a long way to go, but ther is nothing wrong with planning ahead of time.

People go through stages with their cars. As we grow up our cars grow up to. Our cars are a symbol of us. They represent us and what we stand for. It shows how we start out cheap and gradually become more and more expensive. Cars' represent their owners, and their owners personality. Trust me I am not just saying this because so far my cars have reflected that i am a poor college student. Well, so far this tis true.

Reaction to 5 paragraph essays
All of the essays that i read were really good. Though i liked them all i did have a few favorites. I liked the essay about love and valentines day, by Angela Ekes. I think that every girl can realte to what she was writing. I know i can. My second favorite was the one about baseball(i forgot the name of the author). The first line in the entire paper really is what draws you in wanting to read more. That in my opinion is how a 5 paragragh essay should be like. The very first line needs to draw the reader in.

My best friend
Ever since the first grade I have had one best friend. Her name is Holly. We are the same age, we are both eighteen. Alton has been each of our home towns. I have lived there my whole life and she has lived there since the first grade when we first met. We also have a lot in common, we both have two brothers and no sisters. Therefore, we have kinda became each others sister. We have been there for each other through thick and thin. I think though that even though we have each had our share of trouble I think hers is worse than mine.Holly has had the same boyfriend, nick, for around 3 years. Somewhere in those three years something happened to her and him that would change their lives forever. Holly got pregnant with her and nicks child. When she found out that she was pregnant she was faced with the tough decision of how to tell nick. When she did get the courage to do so the first thing that came out of his mouth was that she needed to get an abortion because his parents would flip. At the time that this happened Holly was 17 and nick was 19. Holly could not believe what she had just heard. That one statement followed by holly telling nick that she was keeping the baby caused the two of them to break up. After one week or two of being apart though they realized that they needed one another and got back together and both accepted the fact of being parents and together were going to raise this baby. Nick eventually transferred from his college in Farmington to umo and moved in with holly at her parents house. Through all of the ups and downs on November 27th 2003, around 10 at night Leah Nicole Crosby was born. She weighed 6lbs 15oz and was 20 1/4 in. long. She was beautiful. Nick and Holly were so much in love with Leah and eachother, and they still are. Leah is now 9 months old and getting stronger and bigger everyday. Nick is even talking about proposing to holly when they get their apartment. Now your probably wondering where I come in in all this. Well to start off since Holly has no sisters and I am kinda like her sister I am Leah's auntie. When holly was pregnant with Leah I kinda said some things that I shouldn't of about holly and nick and for a few months we didn't talk. At her baby shower I wrote them a little message in their card of apology and told them how proud I was of them for dealing with everything with so much maturity. We are now the best of friends again, sisters, and neither of us would have it any other way. Through all of this I have learned that a real friend will always be there for you and will never let you down.

My high school
I attended old town high school. I graduated on June 4th, 2004 with honors. My school is very small. It was built in the 1950s. They have since added on a new wing and swimming pool. It was organally built to hold 800 students and now , 10 portables later, there are around 1000 students. The teachers have been there forever. The only downfall is that there are more and more drug problems occurs each year. All in all i enjoyed my years there and i would not have changed a thing.

High School Dayz
High school was quite the trip. There were many different social groups. You had the cocky, sweaty, popular jocks. This group was the babe magnet of the entire high school. Then there are the geeks. This group consisted of the chess players and their friends who wore thick glasses and carried inhailers. Next were the cheerleaders(a.k.a the jocks girlfriends). These girls were always full own pep. Finally there were the people in the middle. They kind of just blended in with whichever group there ever was. High school teachers, on the other hand, had there own groups too. These groups were also made up by the students. There were the cool teachers. These teachers wouldn't care if and when you dot your homework done, and they would say the occasional bad word like hell or damn. Then there are the hyard teachers. These teachers give you so much homework that you think they hate you and are punishing you. As for me all of my teachers were in these exact groups, except for Mrs. Spencer. This particular teacher was in a group of her own. She was short and had really thick glasses. Both of her eyes were cross eyed, so when she was talking no one ever knew who she was actually looking at. Her being an english teacher helped her more than it helped her students. She would constantly use big words to insult her students because she knew than none of us knew what any of the words meant. She would pile homework on us every single night and have quizes for us everytime she could see that we were struggling. Her own co-workers didn't like her they would say that she must have smoked too much weed when she was a teenager, or that she should be a college professor instead of a high school teacher. When we would have blood drives at the school and students would take time from her class to go and give blood, she would tell us that it was a waste of time and that we would be missing out on our education. It may just be me but when has saving lives been less important than learning how to write. The point is we have all had bad teachers some point duriong our education. This was my bad teacher. I am glad that I passed her class(barely) and lived to tell about it.

Classification intro #1

Forever friends. This is the saying that is seen on hallmark cards, magnets, and charm bracelets. The saying really makes you think about who your real friends are. Everyone has a variety of friends. You have an absolute best friend who you have known forever and who you know that you can always go to this person for advice or a shoulder to cry on. Then there is your fun friends who you are not really all that close with but when it comes to hanging out and partying they are the first ones you call. Finally there are the friends that you love to hate, these friends are always getting on your nerves and pushing your buttons to the point that you just want to "rip them a new one", but no matter how bad it gets you stay friends just for the simple fact that you know that you have someone who you can take out your frustrations on. Everyone has these kind of friends. These type of friends are all very different form each other.
